I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well- Psalm 139:14. Loving yourself stems from your understanding of how careful God was in making you. Nothing about your make-up is a mistake, everything is geared towards enabling you fulfill your destiny. When you love yourself, you will enjoy your life daily.
What do you think of yourself? You are what you think of yourself, (Proverbs 23:7). Your thoughts affect your words and actions. Many a time, people look down on themselves, magnify their weak points and ignore their strong points. Some think they are being humble or realistic by doing so, but in actually fact they are depriving themselves the opportunity to enjoy their lives on daily basis.
One thing that can make you not to love yourself is comparison. 2 Corinthians 10:12 says, "...but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise." It is not wisdom to compare yourself with others because you have different purposes and destinies. The power of loving yourself is defeated when you do so. Yes, learn from others and sharpen your skills but be original. You are unique and original!
Some people develop low esteem because they don't love the way they look. They feel they are too short or tall, too fat or thin, dark instead of fair, have big eyes (like me), not eloquent enough etc. Love yourself, including the way you look and you will bring out the best in you. You are not a mistake but a marvelous piece of God's creation, fashioned for a glorious purpose. Discover it and enjoy your life daily.
The scripture admonishes us to love our neighbors as ourselves, (James 2:8). That means, the measure to which you can love others is dependent on the measure to which you love yourself. You cannot give what you don't have, (Acts 3:6). If you don't treat people well, you are actually not treating yourself well. You are either harming your spirit, soul or body. Loving yourself will make you take good care of you, spirit, soul and body.
When you love you, you please God. This shows that you appreciate His work and that you will care for it. In other words, loving you praises God. Please shout with me, "I am fearfully and wonderfully made."
Many times, people misjudge themselves. God says among many others, that you are the head and not the tail (Deuteronomy 28:13). Also, you are more than conquerors (Romans 8:37). So, if it is not manifesting in your life, build up yourself spiritually and mentally. And if you are not happy with your body weight or muscles, build it up and watch what you eat too. Don't just sit back and mourn. Develop your worth and you will see great changes in your life that will make you enjoy your life daily.
God wants us to enjoy our lives daily, (1 Timothy 6:17). Whatever negative you may be seeing now, rejoice for it is only temporal. Your future is bright and colorful. Have this picture at the back of your mind and celebrate each day because each passing day draws you closer to your glorious destiny. Loving yourself will transform your life and attitude to life and cause you to enjoy your life daily. Remember God loves you the way you are. So do love yourself too.
